Originally a native of Bray, County Wicklow. Clay began drawing and doodling when just a boy. He loved to draw fantastical things, spooks and ghouls. Clay wanted to be an artist from an early age and was inspired by his uncle, Francis Darcy, who was a graphic designer.
Clay studyed art at the National College of Art and Design (Ireland), and graduated from there in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design Education (honours).
Upon completing college, Clay began teaching Art, Craft and Design. Teaching Art, has brought Clay to many new places. He has taught art in secondary schools in Ireland and abroad. Clay spent a year teaching Art in an international school in Libya, this experience in addition to his other travels have had a huge influence on his art-work.
Clay works in a variety of mediums, but mostly in acrylic and oil.
Clay has exhibited in a number of group shows (his next group show is taking place in the Tinahely Court House gallery in Feb 2011). Much of Clay's work is sold privately or on a commission basis. Clay's most notable works are his surreal illustrations, portraits, pet portraits and landscapes!
